 Elysium Stables - About Us
« Thread Started on Feb 6, 2008, 2:48pm »

Elysium Stables is a newly opened role playing site for dedicated horse role players offering fun gameplay. You can create your own rider for a character, and if you would like, your own horse as well. There is plenty to do with many unique boards. New codes and professional looking skins are added often.

Elysium Stables has just added a new money code, allowing members to buy special features and expansions such as apartments, lessons, packages to increase winning chances at a show, or even a second horse! You can get paid for a service at the barn such as training horses, cleaning stalls, teaching a lesson, or hosting a clinic. If you win at a show, you may get prize winnings added to your money amount also!

We have many different riders and trainers, and offer lessons in English as well as western styles of riding. Clinics, shows and other events are hosted frequently and you’re welcome and encouraged to take part in them to grow with your horse.

We have many active members, and we always welcome new members. Staff and members are fun and helpful and you’re sure to make new friends. You must fill out a character form before you begin to role play and when you get accepted you can go right ahead and begin playing. There is no word limit per post and Elysium is not restricted to advanced or beginner players. It is a perfect place to live out your horse dreams as well as interact with other imaginative members.

Selecting a Stable:

Is the barn clean and tidy? - The muckheap and dirty bedding should be kept in a pile away from the barn. There should be no broken glass or other dangerous items around.
Around Elysium Stables, the stalls are cleaned and aisles are swept daily, arenas are raked weekly, and tack room is organized, feed room is cleaned, and pastures are raked and picked monthly.

The muckpile is set away from the barn in a compost heap and is removed from the yard four times a year.

All glass in stalls have metal barring over it, but if broken, is cleaned up immediately.

Is everything in good repair? For example, does the barn seem run down or in danger of falling apart? Are any of the fences broken?
At Elysium Stables, everything is in great repair. All loose boards in the barn are immediately fixed and put back together, eliminating the chance for an injury.

Any broken fence boards are popped back in immediately. Electric wire that is down is taken care of as soon as seen.

Are the stalls relatively clean? Horses should not be standing in puddles of their own urine, and stalls should be mucked out at least once daily.
As said above, Elysium Stables' stalls are cleaned every morning. Horses are turned out every morning whether outside or in the indoor for bad weather.

Is the riding arena cramped or obviously too small for the size of the lesson?
The indoor arena is a huge space able to comfortably fit a five-horse lesson with plenty of room, but you could fit up to 8 - 10 horses at one time. The grandstands allow spectators to sit and watch lessons, as well as out heated viewing room.

The outdoor arenas are also vast. Each are good for at least 5 horses to move in easily.

For any individual activities you may pursue, are there facilities to encourage this? For example, is there a jumping arena, or a place to go trail riding?
Elysium Stables supports many different riding disciplines. We have miles of trails, a jumping arena, dressage arena, basic arena, indoor arena, cross-country field, and a few outdoor round pens as well as an indoor round pen.

Do the horses seem happy and healthy?
Look out at Elysium Stable's green pastures or open box stalls. Horses are comfortable, happy, and treated individually.

Horses are seen by a vet at a minimum of twice a year and are wormed monthly. All horses must have a negative Coggins and rabies when they come, or leave ES.

Is the owner and staff open and friendly?
All staff are willing to answer any questions, concerns, or information. If anything goes wrong, we will be honest and helpful to get you all information you need to know.

Selecting an Instructor:

Where did your instructor get their credentials?
Hope Levin spent 4 years of time in college majoring in Equine Management and she studied riding, teaching, equine management, farrier science, horse nutrition, as well as horse business management.

Hope has been to many training clinics with famous horse trainers and has worked with many other instructors.

How long have they been riding and teaching?
Hope has been riding and taking lessons since she was 6 years old, but began teaching children at the young age of 12. Hope would help with lessons to work off board for her old horse. She started professionally began teaching when she was 20.

What style of riding do they teach? Is this the style you want to learn?
Hope specializes in 3-phase eventing as well as hunter-seat riding and competing. If you are not interested in any English style riding and competing, Elysium Stables has other instructors specializing in a Western style of riding and competing.

Evaluating Lessons:

Are the horses well-behaved?
As a general rule, most lesson horses are extremely well behaved and relaxed. Green, young, and inexperienced horses are handled by more experienced riders. Riders are able to meet their horses before they ride them by watching another rider with them.

Are they full of energy, or do they seem tired and lethargic?
Horses are ridden at least 4 times a week, unless disabled due to age, injury, or other specific needs. This means, horses are exercised regularly so are not overly full of energy, but are not over worked and tired.

Are they well-groomed, or very scruffy? A little mud or dirt is okay, but when the horse is caked with it, you have a problem.
Horses are groomed before every work session and sometimes are only groomed for a full session. Show or regularly worked horses are trimmed around whiskers, ears, and fetlocks. Body clips are given if needed, but generally not used.

Does the experience level of the rider match that of the horse they are on?
Beginner riders are placed on mares or geldings that are relaxed and well-behaved. More advanced riders are given a challenge with horses that are a bit more difficult, but the riders must still feel comfortable on that horse.

As a general rule of thumb, no horse should be used more than four hours a day with breaks, and no more then 15 hours a weeks. This would depend on the horses fitness and the type of lessons/hacks given. Work load should be suit the individual horse.

Do all of the people in the lesson seem to be about the same level? You do not want to be a beginner in a jumping class, or working with people who have only begun to trot when you are already cantering.
Elysium Stables properly evaluates all students to be sure they are placed in a lesson environment with other children that have obtained the same skills as each other. This keeps students safe and in a friendly environment.

Is the barn staff appropriately dressed for teaching? They should be wearing jodhpurs or long pants, along with boots or close-toed shoes.
Hope is always found in her polo shirt, breeches, and field boots. Other staff if not found in riding gear, wears jeans or long pants and closed toe shoes.

Questions You Should Ask Yourself

-Does this school teach the style of riding I would prefer to learn?
-Do I feel comfortable around the instructor/stable hands?
-Do I feel comfortable on/around the horses?
-Does this school have ample facilities to accommodate my interests?
-Do I like the other students and do I feel comfortable spending large quantities of time at this stable?
