"Let's go, Piteous."
The cold greeting was flippantly thrown at the eager equine's probing face. Micheal's tousled hair only daunted her overall messy appearance. Although her clothes were clean they looked thrown together in a hurry. Through all of her efforts, for a rub, the horse was only rewarded with the pushing of her face aside for Micheal to enter the stall. As she stepped into the stall, dust swirled around her legs showing that the bedding was in need of a replacement. Piceous nickered to Micheal as she pressed up against her for a second attempt at a rub. Ignored one again, the leather bridle was coldly shoved onto her face and latched without a second thought. Piceous willingly mouthed the bit laying in her mouth, waiting to work.
Piceous followed Micheal out from the stall willingly. Her coat was dusty and could use a brush down but, none-the-less the expensive jumping saddle was set and latched in a similar cold manner as the bridle was. Micheal looked pensively at her work without paying attention to any other distractions, including her horse. True, she hadn't been working with her horses or doing her duties as she should lately. Her mind was far off, wherever minds go when utterly tormented with things to do ,and how to act ,and questions to answer. In vain, Piceous continued to try and win the attention of her master through nickers, looking and eventually escalated to stomping her hoofs.
Opening up the gate to the arena, Micheal mounted up pulling back on the reins when the anxious horse walked forward.
"Knock it off."
, Micheal gritted through her teeth. Finding her stirrups and fixing her reins, Micheal squeezed her on perhaps too much. Piceous jolted her head up as she leaped into a jumpy trot. Micheal muttered to herself as she steadied herself to the uncomfortable trot. Her seat was lacking, her shoulders slumped and her heels were less than perfect but she trotted on in the same sloppy manner.
The jumps were set higher than Piceous had ever jumped but Micheal wasn't going to change them, even if she noticed them. After some canters around the rail Micheal headed her for the first jump, a small vertical. Pie hesitated but at the last moment took a large leap and cleared it with nothing to spare. Micheal, after bouncing up from her fallen position, straightened Piceous out before wearily cantering to the next hurdle. Piceous snorted a warning before running out to the side, almost unseating her rider. Micheal jolted the Hanoverian to a stop as she tried to regain her seat. Tightening the reins, she stepped her off into another trot that was slightly better than the first.
