Ella caught a note of something slightly disparaging in Micheal's posture and tone for a moment. She wasn't going to mention it right now, or ask about it, but she'd see later. She was by nature curious about almost everything, and usually lacked any degree of tact, but right now even she could see it was probably best to let Micheal vent if and when she wanted to. "Oh, your birthday coming up? Doing anything?" she asked as they approached the car. It was a nice one, far superior to Ella's own battered landrover and with easily enough room to set the packages and the new tack side by side in the trunk.
When she caught sight of the saddle in the box, the young woman let out a low whistle of surprise and appreciation. It was a nice looking thing, and when Micheal murmured the manufacturer's name her eyebrows rose in surprise. If that was a birthday present that she wasn't being given in person, on her birthday, she wondered what it was that she'd get given for an actual present. "Nice.."

"I can't really think of anything to do. It's not really like I can have a birthday party." Micheal really hadn't given any thought to her birthday except for the fact that she was going to get an apartment first thing. Maybe she could have a "house" warming party instead.
She tried to shut the trunk door with a thump but the air automatic close closed it softly which made her scoff. Can't I even be mad when I want to? Shaking her head she felt more like kicking the car. A Hennig saddle, great, it wasn't like she already had a Hermes. What am I going to do with the saddle I just bought? She snickered at the idea of it being a gift to just anyone around the barn. Or perhaps she could exchange it for another dressage saddle and retire the Hermes. She shrugged thinking she'd just keep it to see if Paladin would fit it besides. "Yeah it is, unexpected really." Another sigh bubbled inside her but she kept it at bay. After staring at the trunk for a few seconds, she looked at Ella again. "I don't want to keep you from your brother. And your new dog." She added with a smirk.

Ella shrugged. She hadn't had a party herself for a few years, but she still tended to go out with a group of friends to a restaurant or a bar. They usually called them a party, even if it really wasn't. "Ah well. I guess you'll have a nice enough day anyway," she said, turning away from the car's trunk as Micheal closed it.
The girl still seemed put out, almost angry, and at the moment it was still beyond Ella as to why. She'd been gifted a $6000 saddle. True, she'd just bought herself a saddle and that might be somewhat irritating, but all the same.. she could maybe try to be a little greatful. "I'll let you get to the barn. I guess that's where you're going," she added, assuming from the tack that was where the 17 year old was headed. "Thanks. Have a good day."

Micheal stared at the road beyond the parking lot to gather her thoughts. Sure she looked like a ungrateful brat she didn't have the heart to contradict it. She felt like curling up into a ball in Pie's stall and staying there until everyone was gone. The sigh she had told herself it could never be done. Sure her parents gave her everything she ever wanted and somethings she never did want. She never asked for anything but a horse.
"Yeah I'll talk to you later." Great that went well. She scrunched her nose and headed for the driver's seat. Climbing in, she took out her keys but held them still. She sat dumbfounded waiting for something to make her go. "Ugh." Her hands smacked against the wheel and she placed her head against them. Can't they leave their childish games to themselves. Shaking her head, she let out a breath and turned the ignition on. Pulling out of the lot, she headed for the barn.
