“And the ribcage would be right here,” she made the pencil sketch a few curved lines, “so you’ll want to make the belly like this,” she murmured, lining shapes on the sketch pad in front of her. She put down her own pencil, folding her hand over his and moved it to trace the lines she’d just made. “Good,” she smiled, glancing up toward his face which seemed fairly impressed of his masterpiece. “Now the mane, tail and forelock.” She motioned to the paper to let her boyfriend attempt the rest.
She smiled, watching him try his best to sketch the mane and tail which actually came out fairly well, but when he ended with the forelock, it turned into quite a piece of poofy-hair sitting on the horse’s forehead. “Emo horse,” she giggled, picking up her own pencil again to sketch more jagged ends on the bangs of Daniel’s drawing. “Just kidding,” she said, flipping her pencil around and erasing the forelock, redrawing it more realistically and erasing the inside pencil lines that weren’t needed on the drawing.
“Tah-dahhh! What a lovely picture, Daniel,” Estee beamed, putting her pencil on the bed beside her and wrapping her arms around his waist. She leaned in to kiss him, pressing her lips to his and she felt his arms wrapping around her. Her arms left his waist and met up around his shoulders, slowly leaning him back on the bed.
“Estee,” a voice from downstairs called.
She broke the kiss, stepping off of the bed and she heard her pencil fall, but she ignored it, lacing her fingers around Daniel’s and leading him out into the hall, running her free hand through her hair, trying to fix it a bit.
“Yeah?” she answered, seeing Hope at the bottom of the stairs.
“Could you come here for a minute?”
The female jogged down the stairs, Daniel close behind her. She glanced at Hope when they were down the stairs standing in front of her.
“What is it?”
“There’s going to be a new boarder coming to the barn and I’m not thinking she has many friends, so if you guy’d like to meet her... I’m sure she’d appreciate the company to make her feel welcome. You certainly don't have to, but I think she'd really like it. She was quite nice and really talkative. ” Hope nodded and smiled as she talked, making her sound very pleasant. “She’s seventeen and just moved down here with her Icelandic horse from North Carolina. And she spoke with an accent on the phone.”
“An Icelandic horse?” Estee questioned with excitement in her voice. “What do you think, Daniel?” She spun, facing the boy, and her arm snaked around his waist.
