Seb pulled the bucket of water up to the side of the stall. Wash day, fun. Pulling a wheelbarrow from its hiding spot she moved it next to the stall as well. Pulling a shovel from the rack she dug it deep into the bedding. No straw for Twilight. Never in her life would she ever clean a stall with straw in it. No shavings or sawdust either. Seb preferred pellets. They broke up easily, making a nice fluff to absorb the urine. Plus, easy to clean and it lasts up to two weeks, three if you pick every day. Seb was quick to strip the stall down to the mat. Pulling on rubber boots Seb sighed as she fell to her knees with a scrub brush and a bucket of soapy water.
Dipping the brush into the water she quickly pulled it out and started in the far corner. Scrubbing down the mat Seb took her time, not wanting to miss a single square inch. She took pride in the fact that she cared about her horses health. If you just pick a stall clean with a pick every day, sure they’ll never get sick for a while. But after a few months, maybe a year, the urine and broken down feces leak to the mats and contaminate them. After a while, germs feed off the spots you’ve missed and grow underneath the new bedding. It’s a disgusting process.
Moving the brush to her other hand Seb worked out her hand cramp while she continued to scrub. She had no intention of stopping because one of her hands was cramped up. But once the mat was done she took a few moments to work her cramps out and then start on the walls. Using a new brush and fresh water Seb scrubbed down the walls, every side and as far up as she could reach. Lucky for her the soap was a form of bleach but odorless and harmless to animals. If it had an odor she’d never be able to do this. Seb would get a headache after a while and have to stop.
After letting the bleached water sit Seb grabbed a hose and rinsed everything off. Grabbing a towel she set to drying everything off as best as she could. Once it was all dry she threw in a bag of bedding and ripped it open. Scattering it about she threw the empty bag away and brought Twilight in for the night, latching down her door securely and clipping the lock into place. Hope and Seb were the only ones with the keys. Otherwise, Twilight would either get out herself or someone would let her out. Seb wasn’t taking a chance of either with show season just around the corner.
